Happy Summer Solstice!
It’s always weird, summer solstice in Mammoth. Snowboarding just finished last weekend. We’ve been enjoying the longer days. And yet, today the days start getting shorter and head into winter snows again.
Luckily the temps aren’t symetrical and we have three months of summer warmth to look forward to, even if the days get shorter.
Unlike most years, we’ve had a cloudy, cool June that left snow above 12,000 feet on peaks that were snow-free in May. The White Mountains across the Owen’s valley is white-capped. White Mountain, shown here, is the third highest in California at 14,246 feet. And it’s not going to be hikable without snowshoes for a few weeks looks like.
