Out from under, and looking forward…
OK..bottom line…holidays are over. Guests are all home (though more will no doubt arrive soon.) And it’s 2006. Good riddance 2005! Time to look forward.
By now everyone has heard about last week’s storms. It was incredible. About 95 inches fell in 36 hours. The picture below is from the street level in front of the house. The lumps are cars in the driveway. We went from a bit of snow in town to tons overnight.
On Monday the 2nd, the town was shut down. 395 was closed in both directions and the plows couldn’t keep up in town. The mountain opened a couple lifts, and then gave up. I hear about 60 people were stranded in town without lodging and ended up spending the night at the Mammoth High gym.
Luckily I had three friends here in town. After walking through the snow to find food, we came back to dig out. There was a lot of snow to remove and it took hours to get around all the cars and throw the snow elsewhere. Kent had fun wading through the powder before we started.
But of course, the powder on the hill was epic on Wednesday when they opened everything up. It was fantastic.
I’m going to have more time at home due to jury duty call and other stuff that needs tending to. Looking forward to some calm!
